Honour Guard
Overview
The Paramedic Honour Guard (the Guard) was created in April 2004 under the Paramedic Association of New Brunswick
(PANB) Chapter 3. It evolved into what it is today thanks to the determination of a small group of
Paramedics with a vision and the dedication for promoting the profession of Paramedicine.
Our members have put in many hours participating in a number of public functions, attending countless
meetings and drill training.
The Guard is very unique from other EMS Honour Guards in that we have two (2) branches. First, the Guard is
governed by an elected Executive. The Executive consist of a Director; Assist Director;
Communications Officer and Treasurer. These positions are clearly defined in our bylaws which can be
found be the back of our Operations Manual.
Second, during training exercises and functions; the Guard follows a para military structure in which
a ranking system is used. We have a Captain who leads in any associated drill procedure and in the
event of his or her absence a Chief Warrant who will step in to this role.
The goal of the Captain is to assist our members with their drill technique and to assist everyone as
a group, to prepare for functions which the Guard will be attending. To identify a Captain and Chief Warrant
during a function, they will wear different shoulder epaulettes then the rest of the members which also
include the Executive.
In addition to these two (2) branches we would like to recognize two (2) other positions within the Guard.
First, there is a supply liaison in which he or she is responsible for the ordering of equipment and
supplies for the Guard as directed and voted by the membership.
Second, there is a fundraising liaison who is responsible for overseeing fundraising events and
making sure all money goes to the Treasurer.
The Guard is always working toward excellence and we are always looking for ways to improve.
Welcome to the Guard!
